5 Creative Summer Activities for Toddlers

5 Creative Summer Activities for Toddlers

Today's guest post is written by Hannah Richards — mom, creative, and longtime friend of Parker Baby Co. Hannah loves finding simple, engaging ways to spark creativity with little ones, and she's sharing a few of her favorite summer activities to try with toddlers this season.

As an artist, I’m always looking for creative ways to keep my toddler entertained! This summer will be our first where he’s really able to engage in activities that are slightly more complex, so I’ve come up with a list of a few things we plan to try!

1. Customized Kids Gear

Whatever activity we’re doing, I love keeping all the craft supplies in our Parker Kid’s Backpack. It has plenty of pockets, and is customizable with space for Patches

2. Washable Markers

Tried and true for messy tots, and low maintenance for mama; One of my favorite go-to’s is to strap my son into his high hair, tape a piece of paper to his tray, and give him an assortment of washable markers! It’s the perfect activity for any weather, and it keeps them localized in one spot so you can sit down and finally finish that coffee.

3. Water Painting

For another minimum mess activity; water painting! A simple and fun way to get your kid outdoors, just fill a bowl with water and add an assortment of sponges and brushes. Let them paint the driveway, patio, sidewalk, etc! Only cleanup would be a possible change of some wet clothes.

4. Nature Color Hunt

This one is more hands-on, but completely worth it; a nature color hunt. Take the bottom half of an empty egg carton, and paint an assortment of different colors in each spot. Once the paint is dry, take your toddler on a nature hunt (could be around the backyard, neighborhood, or local park!) and have them find one thing for each color!

5. Chalk Paint

Finally, messiest but not least; chalk paint! This one is great if your tot is bored of regular chalk, and it’s not too tricky to make. Grind or grate a few different colors, and mix the powder with a little cornstarch and water. Take it outside and give your little one a brush, it makes drawing with chalk feel brand new!
