At-home Photoshoot for Baby Hazel

At-home Photoshoot for Baby Hazel

Having a baby during a pandemic was an interesting experience. There were many things I wanted to focus on in a negative way but in all reality, I was just grateful to bring our little Hazel Grace earth-side.

When we gave birth to my son, the hospital had a cute photographer that would come around and take newborn photos. Obviously, with all of the Covid-19 precautions this was not going to happen. I decided to reach out to our girl Gracie (who does all the Parker Baby Co. photoshoots) and ask if she was comfortable taking newborn and family photos in our home. Thankfully she said yes!

Gracie also shared a few tips with me on how to have a great experience taking newborn/family photos at home.

When doing an in home session - always keep lighting as a first priority! Typically I try to shoot these sessions in the mornings when the light is super bright. We have two children, so being up in the morning and ready to go worked great for us! Our toddler is most pleasant after breakfast too. ;)

Pick the rooms with the best lighting - aka windows!!! Luckily Hazel's room has some of the best light of all the bedrooms. We also did the majority of our photos in our living room and kitchen where there are huge windows that let in lots of natural light.

Make it your own! Do things that are important to you as a family. Our family revolves around coffee. We love going on dates to coffee shops, trying out new beans, and my husband Daniel even has a fancy espresso machine. So of course we had to take some photos of us all having our morning cuppa.

Try to always wear neutrals + stay away from busy patterns. Picking outfits is always the hardest part for me, luckily we were at our own house so if we needed a wardrobe change it would be easy! I also picked pretty and simple bows for Hazel to wear that would look good with whatever we were wearing.

Family photos should not be stressful! We loved having a photoshoot at our house that captured us in our most comfortable state. And gave me an excuse to clean the house and wash my hair. But in all seriousness, I will cherish these photos of my little family forever!
