How to Hygge

How to Hygge

My favorite part about the Holidays is how cozy and decorated my home gets. Growing up in a very Danish household, I learned at a young age that this cozy feeling can actually stick around all year! It's called 'hygge' and we are going to break it down. Hygge (hoo-gah) is a Danish word about coziness and surrounding yourself with the things that make life good. Kind of like a hug..hug-ah. 😉 It has no direct translation because it's more of a feeling.

The number one key ingredient to a hygge home is candles! I will link some of my favorites below.

Next on the hygge checklist is a cozy blanket. The kiddos (and I tbh) love our Muslin Cotton Quilts from Parker Baby Co. They even look cute when we aren't using them! I also love this chunky knit blanket from Target. I never put it away because it just looks so cozy and inviting on my couch all the time (very hygge)!

While we are on the topic of leaving stuff out and looking cozy: let's check out some soft and stylish storage options. The Rope Diaper Caddy is modern and stylish and portable (hello ultimate functionality!). We also toss toys, games, books, you name it in our Rope Storage Basket. It's simple design is not only pleasing to the eye but also softens up any space the neutral basket is located!

Another key hygge step is to always have cozy drinks on hand. I know that phrase seems weird but what better way to feel warm and fuzzy then with a hot cocoa or afternoon cup of coffee! I set up a little cocoa station so I'm always prepared. Take this cozy treat a step further by making homemade hot cocoa! This recipe is kid friendly and so easy!

The final step in achieving a hygge home is by simply creating a warm and inviting space that feels comfortable to you. There are so many ways to accomplish this and I've only listed a few! Add candles, soft music, a space to cozy up and read a good book...Hygge is about surrounding your life with things that make life good. Let me know in the comments below how you accomplish some 'hygge' in your life! (bonus points if you can tell me how many times I used the word 'cozy' in this blog post)
